When I tell people I am training to do a fitness competition, many people don’t know what it is and when they find out they wonder why?! Just like any other sport, fitness competitions challenge your mind and your body.  They take training to an whole new level.  It becomes like creating a sculpture out of your body, it’s truly and art and even if you don’t like muscles when you change the way you look at it you can gain a new appreciation for the sport and the human body!

There are different types of Fitness competitions some such as Body Building, Figure, Bikini Model and Fitness.  With body building and Figure it is all about balance of the body, definition of muscle, your posing techniques as well as overall presentation.   When people think of body builders especially women they think of the images that they see in movies and at some of the competitions when the women look like men and that is not natural body building.  Bikini model is just that, a slim toned body with balance but not very muscular.  Fitness is where the gymnastics comes in (not for my body..lol) and they have to do different fitness routines and dances, fun but you definitely need that talent!

So the countdown soon begins for my Figure competition training for a may 2011 show with the IDFA ( a natural bodybuilding organization).  Beginning of January is 16 weeks out, the diet and training begin and I am ready for the challenge.  I have been mentally preparing for this for months and months, your mind really needs to be in the right space as it is just as much a mental challenge as well as a physical one.  Sometimes we do things, not to win or come in on top but to challenge ourselves and  allow ourselves to push to the next level just for us and no one else.  Many people compete to win (and when your a pro competitor you can win money) but in my case and many others I am doing it for the challenge.  It makes you stronger (literally!) I love the way my body feels and looks and to know that you can take yourself to the edge it an amazing feeling!  I look forward to sharing my journey with you (even when I am craving foods I am not aloud to have….lol).  I look forward to hearing your comments or questions and I thank you in advance for all of your support.  Support is so important in any type of fitness venture, you must surround yourself with positive energy and people who want to see you succeed!! Maybe my journey will open your eyes to something you have wanted to try but just haven’t been in the right mind set to do it, remember it is never to late for anything and if I can compete in a fitness competition then you can do anything you have always wanted to do :)
