Many times people begin training be it for the first time or for a specific event. In many cases when your training volume is increased their is a chance for some set backs be it in your mind or physically in your body.
Training is very much a mind game as much as a physical one. So in my case right now, only a week into training for this fitness competition and I already got injured which poses a set back in my training schedule
This happens, now I must allow my body to heal doing everything else I can to stay on track and I will re-evaluate the situation when the injury is better. This is a physical set back.
When it comes to the Reality of training, especially when your just starting out the set backs you may experience tend to be more mental than physical. We all want instant results and while small things can change quickly at the beginning such as getting stronger and noticing your body toning up a little here and there, the reality is that it will take more than 10 personal training sessions!! As my client and I trained this morning and were having a wonderful discussion about life, she voiced her concern about weather or not her body was changing as quickly as she felt it should. She is feeling stronger and noticing little changes but her concern is a valid one and the reason why so many people do not get results from training. It is simple, they give up to soon. The body needs time to adapt to a new routine such a training, and as soon as it adapts and you trick it and change up the physical demands placed upon it, you begin to see changes. This can not happen in only a few sessions. 20 sessions you see results but it is just the beginning of many great things to come!
So the reality is that you must make fitness a commitment and learn to accept the challenges your mind will give you as well as your body while you take this new journey. Also just remember your not alone…as my client thought she would be much further along in her journey she knows what it will take and is sticking with her commitment! She is progressing very well but also has realistic goals…well sort of..LOL As she tried on a pair of jeans from 2 year ago she realized her body has changed…knowing how long it took for it to transform from what it used to be she came to the realization as she finished the day sitting on her couch pant less watching t.v re runs…she reached the decision to do what it takes to get back to where she used to be! So if it’s you at home sitting on the couch watching t.v wondering what has happened, make the commitment to change your life for the better and work hard for the health you deserve and don’t let anything set you back! If we can do it, so can you
